City Cars

Monheim am Rhein has a city car fleet that can be booked and rented online. There are currently 15 vehicles in the scheme. The fleet consists of small Renault Zoes, nine-seater Master station wagons and a Kangoo. On weekdays, some of the cars serve as company vehicles; otherwise, they are available to citizens around the clock. The Zoes are electrically powered and refueled with 100 percent green electricity at three lending and return points. The electricity comes from MEGA, the know-how from the car-sharing provider Mikar, and the idea and financing from the city.

There’s no need for you to worry about long distances: The small electric cars can handle them, too. In ideal conditions and with full batteries, they can travel over 300 kilometers. Registered city car users can recharge the vehicles quickly and easily anywhere. The integrated smart eCable means that the Zoes to be charged at all Innogy charging stations outside the city without prior registration. All charging is included in the tariff and is, therefore, free of charge. The Zoes are available for €4.90 per hour or €34.90 for a full day (24 hours).

The large Renault Master station wagons are diesel-powered nine-seaters that are ideal for club outings or other group trips. The hourly rate here is €5.90. The daily flat rate, including 300 free kilometers, is €49.90. Each additional kilometer is charged at just 11 cents.

There are pick-up and drop-off points for the vehicles on Krischerstrasse (near number 3), in the City Hall parking lot, at Haus der Chancen, Friedenauer Strasse 17c, and, in Baumberg, at the corner of Geschwister-Scholl-Strasse and Holzweg. Thanks to eCable technology, each loan ends automatically when the vehicle is reconnected to the designated city car charging stations.

And this is how the booking works: After registering online – please have your driver’s license data and bank details at hand! – Mikar will e-mail you the contract form. The printed and signed contract must then be presented together with your driver’s license and an ID card at the citizens' office (the Bürgerbüro in the City Hall at Rathausplatz 2). Just one working day after making the booking, the city cars can be used via an app.

Rent-a-bike

Monheim Mitte will soon be providing its citizens with around 400 different city bikes, including e-bikes, city bikes and youth bikes – all with GPS. Sixteen of the 154 e-bikes and 154 city bikes have child seats on the luggage rack. Larger children can also be transported in the electric cargo bikes. The rental and return stations are spread throughout the city, so they can be reached quickly from anywhere in the city center.
